Hey there Honey's and New-Bees!
Overall I think dips get a bad name for being fattening and unhealthy, but that’s not completely true. Yes, there are many dips out there that are filled with sugars, processed fat, mayo and cream cheese, but there are a number of really healthy and delicious “guilt-free” alternatives that you can easily make at home and that are HEALTHY for you.
Every spring, when fresh, locally grown veggies start making their appearance in farmers markets and in the produce aisle, I get into the mood to pull out my food processor and whip up a dip to have on hand for when I want to have a little nibble of something.
Guacamole is probably one of my favorite dips to make and munch on (it never lasts long), and it’s probably the easiest of the dips to make; all with fresh ingredients, there is absolutely no need to go out and buy these salty processed “guacamole seasoning” packages. Everything you need to make this simple, delicious and nutritious dip, you can find in the produce aisle.
Avocados, the primary ingredient in guacamole, contain a powerhouse of nutrition, vitamins, and fibre.
Step 1 – Pit & Skin your Avocados

Wash your avocados and slice your avocados in half lengthwise until you reach the pit, then carefully rotate the avocado so that you slice around the pit. Remove the knife then twist the avocado and the two halves should easily come apart.
One half of the avocado should still have the bit in it, and here is where things can get a little messy and/or tricky. So you avoid having to dig out the pit and make a mess all over your counter, carefully whack your knife into the pit, then twist the knife (along with the pit) and lift up – the pit should easily come out. BE CAREFUL when removing the pit from the knife, to be safe I find it best to scrape the pit off on the edge of the sink.
Once all your avocados are pitted, take a spoon and scrap out the avocado flesh and transfer it into your food processor bowl, stand mixer bowl, or into a large bowl if you want to mash by hand.
Step 2 – Mash your Avocados

As I’m sure you noticed from the step above, you have a couple of options as to how you want to mash your avocados.
Whichever way you choose is dependant on how you want the end texture to be. If you’re look for a very smooth and creamy guacamole, opt for the food processor, if you want something crunchy with a lot of texture, then mash with a fork by hand, and/or if your looking for something in-between, use your slow mixer. Each option is great, so don’t worry if you don’t have a a stand mixer and/or a food processor, you can still have a FANTASTIC guacamole regardless of how you mash your avocados 😊.
Step 3 – Add Everything Else

Once your avocados are mashed, all that’s left is to mix in the rest of your ingredients. Start by adding your onions, garlic, and salt, then mix until they are well combined into the avocado, then add your cilantro and lime. Continue to mix everything together for another minute, adding a little salt if needs be and a dash of cayenne if you want to add a little spice; then transfer to a separate bowl, serve immediately or refrigerate and serve later!

Homemade guac is one of my favorites! As I grew up, I lost the taste for guac, but I eat it every now and again because it reminds me of my childhood; my mom’s from Mexico and made guac at home every weekend! Great recipe!
Thanks for sharing! x
