Hey there Honey's and New-Bees!
If you’re a meat eater than chances are you like ribs. With the Superbowl around the corner I thought it would be a great time to write about my favorite Superbowl treats, Slow Cooked Pork Side Ribs. A couple years ago Romeo and I had a craving for homemade ribs, however, it was the mid January in Canada, which meant bbqing was out of the question, so we decided to try our luck and make them in our slow cooker. WOW were we glad we did!
These were the juiciest, most flavourful, and tender ribs either of us had ever eaten. On top of being mouth watering delicious, the ribs were very easy to make and didn’t need much attention while cooking. Once we had them in the slow cooker all we had to do was wait a couple of hours, then stick the ribs in the oven for 10 minutes before serving; doesn’t get much easier than that!
The best part about these ribs is that they can be made them any time of year and if you want to make these in the summer without turning on your oven you still can by using your bbq for the last step as opposed to the oven, either way these ribs are a win win!
Hope you enjoy these ribs as much as we do and don’t forget to leave a comment on how your ribs turned out!
Step 1 – Into the Slow Cooker

Slice an onion into large rings and dice up some garlic. I like to stick with 1 onion and 2 cloves of garlic, but if you want to add more or less of either go ahead! Once that’s done, generously season the ribs with some salt and pepper, place half of the veggies on the bottom of your slow cooker then place your ribs in the slow cooker, top the ribs with the remaining onions and garlic, add your water to the slow cooker, cover and set your slow cooker on low for 4-6 hours.
If your slow cooker isn’t long enough to fit the entire rack of ribs, cut the rack in half and layer the two halves on top each other, layering some of the onions and garlic in between the meat.
Step 2 – Add a little Sauce

About halfway through the slow cook time, open your slow cooker and lightly brush your ribs with a small amount off BBQ sauce, cover and continue to cook time until slow cooking time is done.
Don’t worry to much if you miss this step because you’re out for the day or just forget, the ribs will still come out fantastic. I just like to add it in because I find it give the meat a little extra sweetness!
Step 3 – Bake your Ribs

The final step is just as easy as all the other steps. Take your ribs out of the slow cooker and place them in a large pyrex or oven proof dish a smother them with your favorite bbq sauce, then bake them at 350ºF for about 10 minutes. Although this recipe calls for baking them for the last 10 minutes, you can opt for the bbq for the same amount of time instead, but since it’s January in Canada I’m sticking with the oven.
After 10 minutes, remove your ribs from the oven, let them sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes (they’ll be way to hot to eat or handle), then serve and enjoy!!!

Looks like a great recipe! I don’t eat pork but my family would love it!
This looks fantastic. We normally grill or ribs on the egg, but this would be a great option when the weather does not cooperate with grilling. I bet they’re really juicy and have a ton of flavor this looks fantastic.
These are the perfect for those winter months when you don’t want to be outside grilling! Enjoy!
